The Requirements
When the annual outage at Corby Power Station was combined with major construction work on the plant's exhaust ducts, which required a large number of construction staff to be located on site for an extended period. Following a recommendation, the power station contacted site accommodation specialists Portakabin (Site Accommodation) to see what they could offer.

The Solution
Robin Heward, Mechanical Maintenance Coordinator at Corby Power Station, says: "We were really impressed by the quality of products in the Konstructa portfolio, which looked much better than anything we had used in the past. So we decided to give them a try for this year's extended outage."
The station ordered 12 large, 30-foot Konstructa office buildings, plus nine combined canteen and drying room units, as well as separate site toilet and shower facilities. The offices were double stacked due to space constraints on the site, and Portakabin (Site Accommodation) provided and fitted all the necessary staircases.
Robin continues: "At every stage, Portakabin (Site Accommodation) ensured the project ran smoothly. Everything from risk assessments and method statements to safety procedures and installation were organised and completed very thoroughly."
All of the buildings were delivered and installed on the agreed date, enabling the construction project to begin on schedule. Portakabin (Site Accommodation) buildings are specially designed to withstand the rigours of a building-site environment. The anti-vandal units are constructed entirely from steel, providing excellent levels of security, as well as a comfortable workplace for occupants.
The buildings at Corby Power Station remained on site for around two months and provided high-quality office and recreation space for the 150 workers that were on site at any one time.
We were really impressed by the high standard of the Konstructa buildings and we had some good feedback from the contractors who were using them every day. The service we received from Portakabin (Site Accommodation) was excellent and the buildings performed well throughout this abnormally long outage. Next year we will be back to a normal ten-day maintenance shutdown and Konstructa will be top of our list to provide our temporary site accommodation.
